What
do I need to become an ALNC?
Advanced Legal Nurse
Consultants (ALNC) are nurses who have taken beginning
and advanced
courses in order to provide services to attorneys,
insurance companies, healthcare organizations, and other
organizations in need of medical records review,
interpretation, and analysis. An ALNC receives hands-on
training with a case they work themselves from start to
finish. They are provided with all of the tools needed
to create reports of their own on any case they get. An ALNC can locate
testifying expert witnesses for their clients. These
services can be for plaintiff or defense.
The ALNC must have
current knowledge of Advanced Legal Nurse Consulting
techniques. The ALNC may assist the attorney during
interviews, trial and depositions to help in eliciting
the truth through their medical knowledge and
experience. They must also maintain high standards of
professional and ethical conduct.
The international
standards for Advanced Legal Nurse Consultants is
required to confer the designation of Advanced Legal
Nurse Consultant (ALNC) upon those who meet the
requirements by successfully passing the written
examination and case study. In order to utilize the ALNC
designation, the ALNC must continue to stay abreast of
current advanced techniques by earning continuing
education credits of fifteen (15) hours of training
every year after the initial training to keep their
credentials active.
